Further on from the crossroads
of La Parra and Ronda de Curtidores the Puerta de Aguilar begins
where there were once entrance archways to the main town. These
archways were built in 1890 but later knocked down in 1962 against
public opinion.
If we go along Horno street to
the right we find the place where the Cobos Wine Cellars once
stood. Here there is a plaque which reads: "The foundations
of these walls were dug in the sunny sand of a bull-ring because
it was here that until the year 1906 in which year these wine
cellars were founded, that the bull-ring of Montilla stood, the
place where Machaquito, Lagartijo, Chico, Bienvenida and Corchaito
fought, amongst other famous bull-fighters".
