Continuing in the same direction
we come to the beginning of Corredera street, the main street,
where we find the most important shops and banks. At the beginning
there is a small triangular square called La Plazuela, very near
to which is the convent of Santa Ana founded in 1594.
From
an artistic point of view the most important piece is the Church,
which was finished in the late eighteenth century. It is a temple
with a Latin cross and a single nave, with a smaller semidetached
nave to its right. The entrance to the presbytery is semidetached
by large paired columns from the Doric order, over which sit arches
which frame the cupola.
The main altarpiece, work of Pedro
Roldán, is one of the artistic jewels preserved in Montilla,
finished in 1954. The decorative aspects, despite its classical
spirit, have a great number of baroque elements. The columns that
frame the main body are Corinthian with flute shafts and profuse
decorative vegetation adorn its lower third.
The main panel is dominated by
an image of the Immaculate Mary again by the hand of Pedro Roldán.
There are also interesting images such as that by Gaspar Lorenzo
de Cobos.
The altarpiece is completed with
the high and low choirs. In the later there is a reminiscently
gothic carving of Santa Ana. There are several baroque paintings
and a Dolorosa by Duque Cornejo.
