Reaching
the end of the street, and going down San Luis street the next
turning we find to our left is La Paz street and the hermitage
of the same name. Next to it the house where San Juan de Avila
lived and died. Both house and hermitage maintain their original
layout decorated with objects from the period. It was built in
1547 to house its master.
Juan de Ávial was the founder
of the Humanity and Theology Centres in Baeza, Granada and Cordoba,
schools in Jerez, Priego, Montilla, Ubeda, Seville, Alcalá
de Guadaira, Palma del Río and Écija. Spiritual
counsellor to Francisco de Borja, Juan de Dios, Ignacio de Loyola,
teresa de Jesús, and Fray Luis de Granada, he prepared
written essays and memorials for the councillors of Trento and
Toledo. He died on 10th May 1569.
At the end of San Luis street
we find the hermitage of the same name, founded in 1655 by Luis
Fernandez de Córdoba and Mariana de Córdoba Pimentel
when their first male child was born.
With a mixture of baroque elements
its surroundings have already been renovated on numerous occasions
by the various congregations dedicated to teaching, that have
used this building since the nineteenth century.
